Win XP now shuts down like it should

I couldn't get my system to shut down - it would hang on "Windows is
shutting down". The only way to shut down at that point was to hold the
power button for at least 10 seconds.

To make a long story short, I tried most of the things in the
troubleshooter without results. Today I uninstalled my HP 3300C
scan/copy machine & the PC shuts down properly now. I now have the HP
1350 installed & running without any problems.

So for me at least, the problem was the scanner.

You can hold down the "ctrl" button and shut it down.
