At the moment I'm using a laptop & a PC, both of these are running Win XP
Pro, I am now thinking of upgrading to a new laptop which has Win XP Media
Centre installed.Could somebody tell me if there are advantages with Media
Centre or is it a completely different operating system, in other words,
would I be upgrading or downgrading? The laptop will be used for everyday
general use.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

If by "everyday general use" you mean surfing the net, retrieving email,
word processing, etc then there is no advantage to replacing Pro with Media
Center.

Windows XP Media Center ha all the features of XP Home with the addition of
the Media Center utility. Usually laptops with XP Media Center installed
have "entertainment functions" available from the keyboard - such as DVD
"button" to play DVDs. Suggest you check out the difference between Media
Center layout and XP Pro.

Many thanks for the helpful reply, I was just wondering whether I would be
losing any of the functions from XP Pro.

AJR,

You said that "Windows XP Media Center ha all the features of XP Home with
the addition of the Media Center utility."

Does that imply that there are only 5 network connections ( as opposed to 10
for Pro)?

And I guess that means that 'real' security (not just Simple File Sharing)
is missing too?
