Can i dual boot a xp Media Centre Edition pc with xp home ?

I am about to buy, if this question gets a positive answer, a xp media centre
pc ( as it the best buy for money it seems in the store) . However i want to
run Premiere Pro which isnt supported under media centre. Is it feasable to
dual boot with xp home so i can use that for Premiere ? all the microsoft
sites mention all xp versions for dual booting apart from media centre.

Any help appreciated. Links to relevant articles are good as well !

Premiere Pro should run under XP MCE (as it is essentially Windows XP Pro
with additional features).

There really is no reason to dual boot with XP Home Edition for this
circumstance (and I'd be hard pressed to think of a reason why you'd need XP
Home when you have XP MCE already).

I know nothing about Premiere Pro, but iof it runs under XP Professional, it
should also run under Media Center Edition. Media Center Edition is nothing
but XP Professional with some extra features (and lacking the ability to
join a domain).

How do you know it's not supported under Media Center Edition?

Yes, it is possible to dual boot with MCE and Home, just like it is with any
OS. Just make sure that you set the to OSs up on different partitons and
LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE ON THE MCE PARTITION! I don't think that you would want to
run our of space on the media partition, although I think that it is possible
to configure the other partition to show as a drive in My Computer.

Why would it be especially bad to run out of room on the media centre
partition ? Would it be better to get another hard drive ( int or external )
so not to have partitions ?

Thinking about it i would partition and then get a second drive for the
Premiere Pro video files. Does having a dual boot on a partitioned drive
affect performance ?

interested. They said we dont support it and advised me to load it to see if
it worked. Very helpful - not. Aspect HD, a P.Pro hd plug-in, said they didnt
support Media Centre Edition due to 'device compatability problems'.

I'm not trying to make life hard for myself, honestly, but its a big
purchase. I guess i can buy the MCE XP computer then if i have problems,
which i appreciate you say i wont, then i can dual boot.

Do dual boots affect performance at all ?

As far a I know, dual boots do not affect performance, because, essentially,
one partition has nothing to do with the other. And, after reading Ken and
Jason's inputs, I am really curious as to why you were told that your
software wouldnt run on XP MCE, since it is just another edition of XP.

It wouldn't be that bad to run out of room, but it would be a hastle to run
out of space on the partition where you would store all of your media files,
since they take up a lot of room.

I said you "shouldn't" have problems. I see no reason why you should, but
that doesn't mean I'm willing to guarantee it. My guess is that Adobe just
hasn't tested it with MCE, so won't promise it works, but that's just a
guess.

No, not at all. Having an operating system installed on your drive does
nothing when it's not in use.

Ken - yep you did day should which is a different kettle of fish entirely.
My bad. I think you are right re Adobe - they cant promise it would work as
it hasnt been tested. It just seems surprising not to have tested it with
MCE. To be honest the guy on the pre sales line didnt really want to knowb -
but you guys have made up for that with your excellant replies.
