If an organization is replacing (taking completely out of service) a number
of PCs and replacing them with newer hardware, can the XP licenses be useed
on the new hardware? This would save a significant amount of $$ for them.

The m,achines to be retired came w/ individual licenses, not part of a
multi-license agreement.

Thanks in advance....L

Only if the older PCs have a Retail and not an OEM license.
OEM licenses cannot be transferred at all.

I thought OEM licenses stay with the hardware. If I buy a used DELL
computer I can keep the OS that was originally installed on it. I thought
that's how all OEM licenses worked. Now Corporate licenses are another
matter. If it's a Corporate license, then no, it cannot be transferred out
of the original company that owns it.

That's correct. What Carey meant, I'm sure, is that an OEM license can't be
tranferred from one *computer* to another.

I think I misunderstood what he said within the thread. Thanks!
