win xp install errors

i am trying to install win xp from a cd. when the winxp files are done
loading the computer just restarts, the options to install windows does not
come up. but when i try it again and during the time where i have the option
to hit f6 to install scsi or raid drives i will hit f5,f7,f8 and another
option comes up saying: "setup could not determine the type of computer you
have." then it has two option that i can choose from "standard pc with c-step
i486" or "other". when i choose the first option the copying of setup files
starts and the screen to install windows comes up. and when i reformat my hd
and start to copy files to the hd messages come up saying: "the file 'so and
so' was not copied correctly" or "'so and so' file was not copied". what can
i do? i just put in a new motherboard intel p4 d865perl 2.4ghz with 512mb
memory.

Make sure your motherboard BIOS is up to date and that APM , ACPI are
enabled.
The option to install Windows... make sure the boot after copying files is
from harddrive and not from CD/floppy.
There are more options for "type of computer" but you cannot see them unless
you scroll using the Down/Up arrow keys.
Make sure you pick the correct one - pending your mobo features/CPU.
Wipe clean the XP CD, or try another CD-R drive for misscopied files.

U can possibly have entered the wrong setting's in your BIOS. Start the comp
hit del to enter bios. Restore originall setting's. Then make sure you enter
the righty settings to start with the cd\dvd-rom drive at first choise.
It looks something like this

1: Diskdrive a:
2: HD (hard-disk)
3: cd\dvd-rom

Change 3 with 1, and save the settings. When xp install is finished restore
the bios.
