Win XP initial setup?

Hi all, apologies if this is the wrong forum to post in.

I recently acquired Windows Vista Business 64 bit version, however soon
realised that on trying to install many programs i used on XP, that they did
not work due to them only being available for the 32 bit system.

I hastily attemtped to revert back, but stupidly deleted the Windows.old
folder and any chance of reverting back to XP. My system when purchased had
all the recovery info on the HDD, so when i rebooted and found that the
option to recover the system had gone i was devastated. I did have one final
option, which was the CD's i managed to get from the retailer after i found
that the recovery info was held on the HDD. (My argument was that if the HDD
ever became damaged i would lose all info including the OS as there was no OS
cd with the package. Thus they gave me the CD's (Norton Ghost and image cd's
from the system)).

I rebooted and completed the recovery process with the cd's. However, when i
first booted the PC up expecting to run the setup phase to register my copy
that was already registered to me, i found that this is *Blank* and is
registered to no-one.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to start the intial setup so
i can register my already registered copy of XP so it shows on my system?

Many Thanks for any help provided

Regards

If you're referring to the "Registered to" entry in System Properties, download
and run the script available from this site.

Keep in mind that this simply reflects a registry entry which exists on the
computer and isn't "registered" with anyone. You may be thinking of the
registration option which is presented once XP is installed from an actual
installation CD. This is purely voluntary and in no way affects the legality of
your XP installation.

If you're still curious as to why this option wasn't offered after using the
manufacturer supplied CD's you might want to contact the company directly.

Good luck
