After I installed a CD burner my original DVD/CD Player drive started to lock
up nearly everytime a put a CD in it that had an autorun on it. I
uninstalled the CD burner and had the same problem. It locks up by just
freezing everything. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work and i have to poer down to
reboot. I thaught that the DVD/CD player maybe went bad. I then installed a
Lite-on SOHW-832S DVD Burner. Have the same problem with both drives. They
recognize music CD's OK. Sometimes, if I have My computer open, I can
double click the drive icon right when I install the CD and can access it.

Did you try resetting the configuration data upon installation ( though the
installation of a new drive should be detected by the BIOS, the operating
system may need a proper drive read using this method). You can also try
using the repair cd ( your operating system disk if the first method does not
resolve the issue).

They are set to auto in the Bios and the pc recognizes them. As I said
before, audio cd's are recognized and and autoplay works. the problem is
with data cd's that have autorun on them. Using my system cd will lock-up
too as it has an autorun on it.
