CD and DVD autorun not working

Hi,

Running XP SP2 and for some unknown reason the AutoRun it not working when
Data CD's or Data DVD's are inserted. Also, when data CD/DVD are inserted
usually a pop-up window comes up, that gives you a list of choices to use,
that is not coming up either. Sorry but this is all I have to go on. It's
been awhile since I used the CD drives so I have no clue on when or may have
caused this. I am able to use the CD/DVD's that are inserted, nothing wrong
in that area, just the part I mentioned stopped working.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks, I got the AutoRun to Work on the 1 CD drive and two DVD drives.
However, the autoplay still is not working. I used the autofix tool and it
did detect errors in the autoplay V2, but it couldn't fix it. This is for
all three drives.

I really did a good search on the Internet to this issue and it pretty much
says that the Autofix.exe is the magic pill. That isn't the case with my
issue.

Any other ideas that maybe causing the autoplay not to work? Any tools that
I can use that will help?

Thanks,

MarkC

Here is the latest:

Managed to get the autorun to work on the 2 DVD drives and the 1 CD Drive.
All 3 drives autoplay will not work.
I ran the autofix file and here is a snip of the log:

Test [Drive Notification] - Instance [F:\, Drive Type: 5]:
Result [Legacy Notification]: OK
Result [AutoPlay V2 Notification]: Problems {
Service (Silent)
Shell (Deaf) }
Repair << [Autoplay V2 Event]
Step: No steps to take.
Result: This AutoPlay setting cannot be fixed. Either the device is
malfunctioning, or the wizard cannot determine the problem.
So I am at a stand still, any help would be appreciated. I don't think all
three devices are malfunctioning, just that the wizard can not determine the
problem. Help...

Thanks,
Mark

MarkC,

The autorun just scans the registry for entries. Do you have write permission to the keys
it wants to change?

Hi,

Just so that we are on the same page, Autorun is working, but Autoplay is
not. AutoRun is when there is a *.inf file in the root directory on the CD
designed to autorun certain application. Usually this method is used to
install programs, this does work now.

To answer your question, this is being done using my Admin setup. I also
did a test just to see if this problem was just in the Admin User Profile.
So I tried it using other log-in accounts and the problem is there also. So
this is universal.

The autofix.exe does find a problem in the Autoplay V2 section, but is
unable to fix it.
Tweak UI doesn't work either.

Autoplay the way I am understanding it is when I insert a photo CD, a pop-up
menu comes up asking what application you want to use to display the files,
in my case that is not happening. It did, but for some reason it quit doing
that.

Thank You,

Mark...
