if you want to be able to have both versions installed when you need them,
you are better off just having a dual-boot system instead of constantly
swapping hardware
since you want pro to be 'master' (i assume the first drive) then just boot
from the home cd and install on the second drive
your bios settings will state what device will boot first
after home edition is installed, you will have a menu at startup asking
which to start, professional or home
you can use this as a bit of a guide

You can do this, but be very, very careful to save the data on the XPPro
drive. Assuming that both drives are IDE drives you should be able to
install both systems to a location of your choosing without all the switching
of disks as long as you have legitimate copies of the operating systems.
Just read the instructions for install each OS and it'll work fine. You can
find instructions on the process here:

Frankly tho' I think that your time and money would be better spent in a
backup program to save your system from becoming corrupt over time. You
won't gain anything by having 2 versions XP on your system.

Why are you switching to XP Home instead of repairing or reinstalling
your existing XP Pro?

Everything that is in XP Home is also present in XP Pro and there is
no benefit or improvement to be achieved by downgrading. XP Pro is a
superset of XP Home, and the differences between the two consist only
of certain features and functions which are unique to XP Pro and which
are not included with XP Home.

The two versions are compiled from the same source code base and there
is zero difference in performance or stability between the two.

Good luck
