Would appreciate suggestions, comments regarding
Disk defragmenter procedures for Windows XP Home Edition

First, I Un-x all files in msconfig except
Systray and Navload.
(Systray and Navload, if I recall correctly, must never be un-xed)

Then, I engage "safe mode"
I engage "safe mode" by re-booting and tap F8 continually after
the computer beeps and chose "Safe Mode" from the menu that
will appear.

Question is, Then what do I do? How do I engage Disk Defragmenter?

Comments, suggestions much appreciated.

Hi Norm,

Overkill. You don't need to disable everything, you don't need to be in Safe
mode. The XP defragger can cope with background activity. You can run it
from the programs/accessories/system tools, or right click the drive in My
Computer (Windows Explorer) and select properties, then go to the tools tab.

You might need to be logged on as an administrator or a member of the
Administrators group in order to perform some tasks.

To open Disk Defragmenter, click Start, point to All Programs, point to
Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Defragmenter.

There are other methods also:-
Use the Properties of Your Local Disk
Use Computer Management MMC
Use Disk Defragmenter MMC.
