Win XP Firewall Icon

I used to see a yellow shield-shaped icon appear in the system tray when I
turned off the Win XP firewall. However recently, that icon does not
appear. I would like to see it when my Windows firewall has been turned
off. I've already checked the box in the 'security center' that indicates I
want to be notified if my firewall settings put me at risk; however, it
doesn't make any difference.

Any suggestions on how to reactivate it?

have you got "hide icons when inactive" clicked in the task bar properties?
