WIN XP Desktop Icons do not show in profiles

Hello.
Here's the stats: I am using XP with IE 6.0.2900. AOL 41.48.5. The issue is:
Suddenly after AOL decided to send an update in the background, when a user
opens their profile, the icons do not show on the desktop. You also can not
right click on thebackground to check and see if the settings are allowing
icons to be shown.

I just downloaded the Service Pack 2 and there are no virus issues. I have
Norton. I also ran diagnostic soltware.

Any solution ideas?
