Win XP and HP printers

Having recurring issue of Windows installing additional
copies of my printer after a reboot. Running XP Pro with
SP1. This has happened with various printers both USB and
Parallel cable but most recently with HP Laserjet 1000 and
Laserjet 1015.

Printers are shared in small workgroup with fresh installs
of Windows. I have ensured that "Automatically search for
network folders and printers" is NOT ticked in Folder
Options > View.
