Greetings,

Whenever I load Outlook Express (ver 6.00), it automatically loads Windows
Messenger (ver. 4.7) in the background. This happens even though in the
Outlook Express options I do NOT have "Automatically log into Windows
Messenger" selected. Eventually, in Messenger I unchecked the option "Allow
this program to run in the background". "Run this program when Windows
starts" has always been off yet Messenger continues to load.
Can anyone offer any advice, or point me to a source explaining what I can
do to make Messenger not load?

Thanks in advance,
Luke.

Close down Messenger (right click the messenger icon in the notification
area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then
click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK. Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed
instructions and screenshots, go to:

I found that Windows Messenger will load if you have the Contacts pane
showing, no matter what you've set in Options. Try turning off the Contacts
pane in View | Layout. That stopped it from loading for me.

Hey,

I just used Phil's option one minute before I got your message. That worked
perfectly for me. Thanks anyway!

Luke.

I really didn't want to uninstall it, on the chance that I might decide some
day that I want to use it.

Also have the OE View - Layout set with 'Contacts' unchecked. OE uses
the Messenger as contact manager
