Win.Med.PLayer and distorted music. Frequencies ?

My Son of 10 has been playing an fiddling around with the XP windows mediaplayer
Now all music comes out distorted. The pitch of the singers is much t0o high as if Mickey Mouse is singing
The tempo (speed) however is normal. Maybe only high frequencies are played
The equalizer in the WMP Does not allow me to rectify it. whatever I try

I tried a lot of things to restore the original settings but I cannot find it
I tried to use another program for playing music (WINAMP) but it had the same distortio
I removed the media player and re-installed it but the error remains

Who can tel me how to restore the original settings ?? or anoher solution.
Thanks very Much in advance

Your sound drivers may feature a control set for effects, and that may
include pitch changes. Check thoroughly in your sound controls and see if
that is the case.

Hi phil
thanks for your reaction

unfortunately however, I do not know how to do what you suggest

if you could give me a few hints on how I should inspect my sound drivers for control sets for effects
I played with all cobtrolls within the Windows Media player I could find but that did'n help

thanks in advanc

In most cases a utility is installed along with the drivers where you can
set various parameters, such as reverb, or whatever. If you have the manual
for your machine or sound card, it should show you if you have such a
utility and how to access it. Often, it will be on your "Task Tray", in the
lower right hand corner of your display. Dragging the cursor over all the
icons there should tell you what they are.
