Win freezes during ISP dial up

During ISP dial up process Windows 2000 freezes.

I must shut down and reboot in order to regain access only
to have it freeze again during dial up. Occasionally I
get online. I am current on all patches, etc. I do not
have the skills to know if this is a Windows 2000 problem
or something else.

I would appreciate any advice to correct the problem.

I would look at the modem drivers. A lot of modems out there come with
sub-par drivers
You might wanna try installing a different modem and seeing if the problem
still happens
