i thought Win 98 displayed in the bar right above the sys tray, the #
of files in a folder, along with the # of kb or mb in that folder and
the remaining # GB left on the disk.

Does XP Win Explorer have the # of MB or GB in the folder being looked
at, and if so, how do i enable it?

what i have now, is the # of files in a folder and the remaining Disk
Free Space in GB.

View->Status Bar

While in the same place in Explorer

Tools->Folder Options, View tab, apply to all folders button

View menu, click Status bar to check it.

Also in its Tools - Folder Options - View, 'show popup descriptions for
folder and desktop items' which gives the information in more detail
when you hover the mouse over a folder

Alex--thanks for the reply.
The 'show popup--' and the status bar has been checked.

i changed the sensitivity in TweakUI and the hover works better...
i don't get it automatically in the Status bar though---only the
number of files in a folder and the remaining free space.

is there a way to add the folder size to the status bar???

No - sorry (I think the overhead of checking all the time is regarded as
too great, when you look at how much has to be done if you say right
click 'Program Files and take Properties). All you get is the total
size of *files* at the level you are looking at
