MG.

Hello to all. I have a friend that wants to sell his laptop that's running
Win2K Pro. I would purchase it, but I would rather have XP Pro as the OS.
Is it possible to "upgrade" 2000 Pro to XP Pro? I have NO experience with
2000 Pro but I have 3 desktops running XP and a laptop running XP Pro and
am pretty comfortable with it.
Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance and best regards
M G

To answer your question yes you can upgrade from Win2k to XP Pro.

Win Xp Pro is really Win2K, just with a few new features and the new
interface.

Yes it also comes with Big Bird, Gonzo, and Snuffleupagus the talking
elephant.

Chris,
Thanks for the help. Dumb question....Is there a Win 2000 AND a Win 2000
Pro? Or is Win2k only a "Pro" type OS?
Appreciate it

I'm not Chris, but there is only a Win2k Pro (the desktop version that
is). You can have Win2k server, but not Win2k Home .. some gutless
marketing department released WinME instead. 8>.

Yes - the XP Pro Upgrade CD is what is needed (but factor in the fairly
heavy price). You run it from the existing system, taking Install and
continuing with Upgrade, and there should be no problems. Note that you
*can't* upgrade 2000 to XP Home, you would need the full edition which
is nearly the same price, and do a clean install
