Win 2K Server TS licensing

I am fairly new to Terminal Services. I am learning as I go. I have read
many, many pages on MS website and I can not figure out what exactly is
needed for licensing. I am trying to figure out what licensing I need to
complete this setup -
1 Win 2K Server running Terminal Services
3 Non Win 2K/Win XP units connecting through RDP
2 Win XP Pro unit connecting through RDP

Can someone please explain this to me?

Thanks,
R Sava

Terminal Services is free and comes with 2 Admin liceses for administrator to
connect and manage servers. For Terminal server application mode you need
client cals, 1 per user. You can use TS for I think 120 days without a
licenses per user, once each user reaches the end of their trial they either
need a licenses or they are refused connection. I've never tried using TS
with a non windows connection but the same licensing would apply for all RDP
connections.

In other words, the TS server itself isn't licensed it's the clients.
Licenses are installed on a license server.

Got it. Thanks. Now a follow up if you don't mind.

I will be in Application mode all the time.
Would I need 5 "user" or 5 "device" licenses? The devices will not be the
same computers but would be the same users. I assume I need 5 "user" licenses.

Can the Win2K server act as the license server? If so, do I need the
Terminal Server license and run it on the Win2K Server box?

Thanks.

5 client cals. Actually i think they evern make device cals for TS. But TS
works off user licenses. Once a licenses is assigned to a user they keep it
until your revoke it.

As for license server yes you can use a 2k server as a license server. If
you're running a domain you should have one, just add the licenses to it.

Note: TS licenses are a little tricky to install. Read the how to. Unlike
other MS licenses TS makes sure you actually have legitmate licenses. You
have to activate them through the internet or phone.
