Win 2k pro install hangs

When I try and install Win 2k pro it always stops (hangs) at 12%
(driver.cab). Hard drive has been formatted and partitioned (I forget how
many times) and install always......always..always.like in all the times
hangs up at 12% driver.cab?? Anyone know why and/or how to overcome this? I
am installing Win 2k Pro w/sp 3. I have also tried to upgrade from NT as
well and install still hangs at 12% driver.cab. Thanks for any help.

You might try removing all non-essential hardware to get through the
install. To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom
or setup disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your
Windows 2000 CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and
execute makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Agreed. I had a couple very similar experiences a couple years ago, and it
turned out to be the motherboard itself. Something (never figured out what)
had failed on the board and Win2k would hang on setup everytime. I replaced
the board with some cheap generic one and it worked fine (still working
today). Second experience ... Another system with same problem .... I
removed all unncessary cards from system and reinstalled and it worked like
a charm. If you get through the install, you may still have to figure out
what it is when you go about installing the hardware you removed.
