win 2k freeze ups

Please advise on fix for computer freeze up, mouse and
keyboard. Nothing will work, have to restart.
Running win 2k, atlas micro computer 800 duron, 256 mem,
logitec optical mouse,usb ,usb win comp keyboard

Check for virus outside windows; check memory and scan
hard drive for sector errors. If you can, do system file
check.
