Win 2003 mapped drive issue.

Lamar Thomas

Hey everyone,

We are running a Windows NT 4.0 domain with a NT 4.0 PDC and BDC. I just
installed our first Windows 2003 file server last week. Here is the
problem:

After mapping a drive to a share on the new server from a Windows 2k
workstation I can access the share just fine (MOST of the time). The other
times I get the following error:

**************************
An error occurred while reconnection G: to \\servername\sharename
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
This connection has not been restored.

**************************

Anyone have any ideas? I can't roll out 2003 until this is fixed. Thanks
for any and all help.

Just means that some other device or mapped drive is using the given letter
(in this case, G). Check to see if this is the case.

I also tried S: as well and got the same error. Remember, this is a NEW
server install. This was the first time I mapped ANY drives to this server.

Lamar,

This interfence may be caused by anti-virus software. I would try
disabling this or booting into safe mode w/ networking to see if the
problem persists.
