I'm using Windows 2000. Recently, I have started having
problems opening music files such as mp3, wav. Once I
highlight the file in order to open, either with the mouse
or using keyboard instructions, the hour glass comes on,
the whole screen turns blue, and after a few seconds, the
screen redraws, having shut any open folders. I've tried
restoring file associations to Windows Media Player then
to Winamp, to see if this helped - it didn't. I've tried
reinstalling Winamp 5 - winamp may have introduced some
degree of instability, but i'm not completely sure. I then
removed WMP 9, went back to WMP 7 and reinstalled version
9. These approaches did not help. The crash prompts Dr
Watson to kick in. I've tried checking the log/dmp files,
but really don't know what I'm looking for and can't see
any reference which helps me to identify the specific
problem. Before trying wholesale replacing of drivers etc
and leaving me with a big task of perhaps reinstalling
programs, can anyone help me to pinpoint what is causing
this problem and how to solve it.

Thanks
