win 2000 logon problems

T

tony vassiliou

I have a Win 2000 laptop that was configured to connect to a domain. I tried
connecting to another network by choosing to connect by workgroup instead of
domain. In the process I guess I disabled logging on to the domain. No when
I try to log on locally (without connecting to any network) in doesn't let
me get past the logon screen. It prompts me for my username and password but
the computer doesn't recognize the username and password. What do I have to
do to get it working? I don't have administrator privileges. Thanks in
advance.

Hi

What you have done is disabled the connection to the domain, which must have authenticated your username and password. Now you have disconnected from the domain there is nothing to check against when you try and log on

You need to know the Admin account for the laptop, or click the Options button on the log on screen to get a choice of the domain or local system to log on to. Select the local system in the domain list (Name of laptop with (this computer) next to it) and try and log on with your normal sign on username and password again

Worth a try

Tony, You are hosed unless you know the local administrator password o
have a local user account. If this machine is a company laptop, yo
need to beg your IT department to rejoin the domain so that the lapto
is useable again. There are ways of getting around it, I have use
them and know they work, but I will not discuss them in a public forum
