Will this build work with Vista at the moment?

Planned System Specs:

A FRESH install of Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual core CPU
Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard
1 BFG Geforce 8800 GTX
Sound Blaster X-FI Extreme Fatality
Plextor DVDR PX-704A DVD R/W drive
2 Western Digital Raptors in a RAID 0 config
2 sticks of Dual Channel Corsair PC 3200 memory.

I already ran the windows upgrade advisor and all seems fine save for the
soundcard but I've read/heard of numerous issues with hardware and drivers.
So my question is, if I build this system (its more of an upgrade/build)
right now will I have problems with stuff like the motherboard it's chipset,
and its onboard LAN card, the RAID setup, the sound card (vista beta drivers
out), Video card (vista beta drivers), or DVD drive?

I was going to wait but I have an ASUS A8n-SLI Deluxe and the small chipset
fan is going on it. From what I understand I'll need to take the motherboard
out anyway to change it so I might do the upgrade now. If my system will not
be able to work well enough to play games like EQ2, or Gothic III, I'm gonna
wait. Anyone who has a similar setup with Vista please let me know.

Thanks!

software for my DVD writer will not work.....And now after all of
this.......NONE of my good games will work with Vista.

Hello Adnon,

You forgot sharing the amount of RAM.

From what you did share, 2 Gig RAM should be minimum, and likely adequate
for what you listed, dependant on your gaming…

Have previously owned the exact same MB as yours, was nothing other than a
space heater. After approximately 6-months, secondary to the excessive heat
produced from MB, fried everything including Athlon 64X, the BIOS went
berserk and would not retain Settings, and other weird issues secondary to MB.

Previously, the ASUS Site did have many user complaints regarding the
A8N32-SLI Deluxe. It is my understanding that MB was rapidly discontinued;
currently use a different (lower) ASUS model, no troubles what so ever.

Caution, for your benefit, read *all* Vista Setup, Install, and *all* Readme
Files from EULA (if memory serves me, two locations during actual
pre-install).

Advice learned the difficult method that you did not request:
Do not ever use multiple third party applications as spyware and anti-virus,
and…, or, indeed you will experience perpetual driver conflicts motivating
you for uttering ugly words, worse than dirt and mud. Just as many before
experienced while never cognizant the true source for conflicts was between
the chair and keyboard resulting from those (old and loved) installed third
party programs that instigated chaos, troubles and problems while fighting
Vista for driver dominant control, and then wrongly assigning blame toward
Vista, instead of the user accepting self-responsibility.

Please do not underestimate the forthcoming:
Become familiar with and read many of Vista’s inherent Help and Support
Files simply for learning how user friendly and ease of functionalities that
Vista offers at your Desktop.

Seemingly, too many people treat Vista as XP, including the simple Upgrade
experiences from XP down.

Too frequently, we humans are creatures of habit wrongly believing that
Vista is equal to the progression of Win 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, and Win XP;
greatest error one could ever make, simply, Vista is not XP.

Considering your hardware, gaming should never be a source for conflicts,
other than current MB and possibly RAM.

Should conflicts ever surface while using Vista, first verify and/or
eliminate any third party spyware and a/v stuff before blaming Vista for
demonstrating Vista’s incredible inherent security.

Perhaps better defined, if you desire trouble filled conflicts while using
Vista, add the multiple third party stuff for a most unusual self-learning
experience that will qualify you for writing Post wrongly criticizing Vista
as many before you have done while they refuse accepting personal
responsibility for that chair-to-key-board user induced trouble filled
conflicts rendering you near insane.

Treat Vista with respect, as a new learning curve, and Vista will treat you
better!

Thanks for all the info guys. I apologize about not stating my memory, it is
two 1g chips in dual channel.

So the A8N32-SLI Deluxe is a dud? I should just return it then? My current
config uses the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and I have a really great case for
cooling. It's an Aspire Xnavigator and has a 20mm side panel fan that pulls
heat out, a fan on the top of the case also blowing heat out, and 2 rear case
fans along with a front fan as well. My system with two Geforce 7800 GTX's in
SLI stayed around 35 - 40 degrees at full load. Think I will have problems
with the A8N32-SLI Deluxe, the new CPU, and my new Geforce 8800 GTX in the
mix? Should I just keep the old Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe I have now instead?

So, I still dont know if I should try out Vista or wait lol .... I wouldn't
blame Vista, I understand the drivers and software needs to catch up, and as
a rule I normally always waited till the first service pack before I made the
upgrade to a new operating system, but I was wondering since I was going to
be pulling apart my PC anyways, if I could manage early.

If I am going to do this, and my sound card won't work, on board network
card, or video card in current games, then I will wait. So will they work or
not? That is the question.

adnon,

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the components you have
sellected. You might check on the motherboard compatibility but I believe
that is a newer board than the ASUS A8N-SLI, and is perferred. So, I doubt
seriously if you would have any Vista issue with it. The only component you
will probably have issues with is the sound card - Creative has yet to create
Vista drivers that properly recongize the game port. But the temp drivers
they offer work for now while they play catchup with better drivers. Third
party vendors have sure allow themselves to be cought with their pants down,
so-to-speak!

With your graphics card you will want to go to NVidia's site after you have
installed Vista and download their latest Vista drivers. The Microsoft
driver installed with Vista (as with any OS) is generic and will work with
your v-card, but to get the full capability of your v-card, it needs the
NVidia Vista drivers. When I installed my GeForce 7800GTX NVidia drivers I
was able to see textures not shown with the generic drivers.

So, if I had your components I would be building it already and istalling
Vista and then grabbing whatever drivers I need. I often go to
www.driveragent.com to use their free scanning of my system for current
drivers. When I find out which components have better drivers available I go
to the vendors website and download them.

I say GO FOR IT!!! :)

I can't speak to that specific driver, but uninstalling my Creative
Audigy 2 has taken my system from Windows 98 stability back up to XP
(which in my case, is 100% update except for patching and other user
initiated reboots)

So the problem is the user?Is that not the purpose of the OS on a computer,to
make the computer more user friendly?I was just stating a fact that Vista
does not work with many games. Are you saying that we should all use ONLY
software from microsoft????It also said my video card would work........but
had no drivers. As a matter of fact,it only has 4 video drivers from intel
that come with it.Make sure your card has new drivers for vista.
