My outlook 2000 has quit responding because my outlook.pst file has exceeded
the 2.0GB file size limit. Outlook 2003 and later has a 20GB limit.

If I upgade and install Outlook 2007, will it read the .pst file and use it
as part of the 2007 setup procedure.

The limitation is in the PST, not in the version of Outlook accessing it.
You'll need to fix it first.
