Will not boot

I have an XP computer that had a pretty good spyware infestation on it. I
booted into Safe Mode and ran my usual tools to scan for the spyware and
everything ran ok. I went to reboot, and now I get a BSOD and the only
information it provides me is:
***STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x000040D8, 0xF78E054C, 0xF78E0248). Any
idea what this refers to? The same error appears no matter if I try Safe
Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or Normal Mode. Any ideas would be
greatly apprediated. Thanks!

You could boot the machine with your WinXP CD and try
a Repair Installation. However, in view of the severe infestation
you had, a complete rebuild would be a much better option.

0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

You could also Google for this error. Lots of possible causes. I agree
with Pegasus, given the history you might be better off reinstalling.

Ouch; that happens with some of the more infamous infestations.

Have you tried Shut Down and then physically removing power from the
computer, not just turning the switch to off? Give it 30 seconds or so and
turn it back on; see if that makes any difference. Somethimes things are
squirreled away in strange memory locations and this forces the RAM to
completely lose any residual memory that might be in it.

You could try doing a Repair Install. In theory that will reinstall most of
windows without disrupting any data you have on the drive. Boot from the CD
and look for the Repair option. NOT the Recovery Console; the screen after
that. There -should- be one more "R" option for repair; that's the one you
want.

Or, if you know how to use the console, go ahead and use it. Most people
don't, so don't feel bad if that's you.

I do not have access to any XP CD's to perform a repair, but I do have access
to the Recovery Console. I am almost positive that it is a driver issue that
is causing this problem, but this error does not give me much clues about
which one it could be. Any suggestions on things to try? Thanks for your
help so far.

I don't see a solution for this problem... I have the same
problem that Jeff identified. XP crashed with bsod and similar stop
code.

***STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x000040D8, 0xF7A5F54C, 0xF7A5F248).

Couldn't boot in normal, safe, last known good, etc. Thought maybe this
was a problem with XP SP3 so from Recovery Console I switched to
$ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst and ran batch spuninst.txt

I was able to boot in safe mode but kept getting lsass.exe -
Application Error : The instruction at "0x00db2419" referenced memory at
"0x0007f3a4". The memory could not be "read".

I ran SUPERAntiSpyware and Mcfee anti virus software. 68 viruses
removed or quarantined with first and another 38 with second.

Reboot and I still have lsass error but also have RUNDLL Error Loading
c:\windows\system32\kevizapo.dll and zozegebi.dll

I could not access my registry for some reason it says I don't have
administrator rights. I am the administrator on my PC...

I ran HijackThis and was attempting to post in forum but every time I
tried coming to forum my firefox browser would take me to a different
sight. Now the bsod is back and can't boot into windows XP again.

Start copying everything you want to save to an external drive and
when done, reinstall XP. Don't bother saving any programs, because
they will need to be reinstalled.

Randem

This may help http://www.randem.com/virusproblems.html

It also helps if you run the av/malware scans on your drive while it is not
runing windows by attaching it to another computer in which you will run the
scans from that computer on your drive.

Sometimes your system is just too far gone and you need a re-install.
