Will IE7 be any better?

Hi people

I just wanted to ask users of this group, do you really think that IE7 will
be any better than IE6 and or bring people back from using FireFox?

My personal views on this are that when IE6 came out I was a user of it, but
I then started using Mozilla I did this because that I hate MS, I don't hate
them at all I use whatever software that meets my needs the best. And at the
time IE6 was not doing that and still does not even after the SP2 upgrade's
I liked the features and opensource aspect of Mozilla, not to mention it's
support of web standards and PNG graphics. As in web designing PNG is vital
for creating fluid transparently that a 256 colour GIF that can't handle.

At this time I use FireFox as this meets my needs and I like the features
that I get from it, sure it's not perfect software but I feel that I can
become more involved with it's development than I can ever have with IE7,
but for now I see FireFox as the way forward.

How? If Microsoft want to whoo me back from FireFox their going to have to
provide something that FireFox does not, I remember when IE6 came out, it
was then I started to lose my support for IE as I've been a IE user since
IE3 and everytime there was a new version there was something new. Not so
with IE6 mostly just the same in terms of inovation as IE4/5.

So I as a user need to know what IE7 will do for me that FireFox can't it's
no good just to say "Use IE7 or else" MS need to provide something in
return.

My gut feeling -- in the absence of an IE7 to evaluate -- is that IE7
will bring some people back from alternate browsers, but that if IE then
remains stagnant until the NEXT version of Windows (in the 2010's?),
then the alternative browsers, which will continue to improve, will once
again bite into IE's market share.

And, it'll STILL download files to a temp file, THEN take several more
minutes copying them to the final download location. I've often had
this copy operation take longer than the actual download did.
I switched to FireFox because it downloads files directly to the
specified folder.

I don't understand that. When I download from the internet, I select
the folder I want the download to go to. It downloads once, that's
all. Then, depending on the size of the file, I might have to wait a
few seconds for Norton AV to scan the downloaded file.

I'm assuming IE7 will do this, but IE6 downloads to a temp location
until it gets to 99%, then a COPYING progress box pops up while it
moves the data to the destination file, which isn't created until the
copy starts.

On a slow machine, like the 256MB 800Mhz P4's we use at work, this
copy can take longer than the download itself did. Very annoying,
since you think the D/L is almost done when it gets to 99%. only to
find that it's going to run even longer.

On my 2.4Ghz home system, with it's ATA100 hard drives, the 192MB
download pictured above only took about 15 seconds. At work,
depending on what other software is running, it could take several
minutes, and represents an unnecessary step, since it's entirely
possibleto download the file directly to the desitination.

If MS has fixed this in IE7, then, it's about time..

I'm pretty sure it will include the tabbed browsing gimmick.
