Will i kill XP?

If i make a new partition, and install Vista on it, will my XP install stop
working? And can i choose between running XP or Vista when starting my
computer?

You are taking a risk, not large, but to those it happens to, not
insignificant, which is why Microsoft warns against it on anything but a
test box. If your install goes correctly you will have dual boot, but again
many do not and you have to clean up or do full reinstalls. Caution
advised. Do not do this on a production or primary home computer unless
everything is backed up fully.
