Hello,

I am running XP with SP1 and the latest version of IE 6. I am having a
problem where some web sites mistake my system for a Macintosh. I'll get
errors stating "our sites does not support the Macintosh" or I will get a
page customized for the Mac. This is especially odd, as I am running
Internet Explorer on Windows XP.

Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening? Is there aa registry
setting somewhere which would affect the browser's platform identification?

Thanks.

I believe that this may be "back-lash" toward Microsoft. A couple of months
ago, Microsoft had "turned off" access to their MSN Network/Hotmail web site
for people who were using browsers other than IE. I can not state for sure
if that is still in effect.

Your problem is indeed weird. Please tell us which sites
you visit, and what message each site gives you.
Personally, I would do a check for spyware with Spybot or
AdAware.

Sure.. everytime I go to www.download.com, the site redirects to
http://download.com.com/ and the cnet search bar (next to the grey Go!
button) drop down has "In Mac" already selected. Further down on the page,
the line indicating the download page states the following:

Downloads for Windows | Mac | Mobile

Like as though the Mac page is loaded, and all the links are customized for
Mac selections.

Another problem occurs when I try to order cheques from my bank
(https://easyweb.tdcanadatrust.com/) using their web site. When I get to
the page to specify the type of check I get the following message:

The EasyWeb cheque order feature is currently unavailable for customers
using the Macintosh operating system. However, we are planning to deliver
this feature soon.

I DEFINITELY think you should run Spybot and AdAware. There is no legitimate
way for your computer to emulate a Mac in any way. I download could only do
this if it were a malicious download.
