I nstalled widows XP over top of my existing windows XP and now I have lost
all my files and program installations, how can I recover my losses

You'd be better off asking your question in a newsgroup related to Windows
XP.

And by the way, you should never put your real e-mail address in newsgroup
postings: the Spammers harvest addresses.
