Crikey !
Windows XP SP2
on a Compaq Evo N1020v
On startup, after the desktop appears, a message appers saying that Windows
installer is preparing to install. Then I get a message saying Microsoft
Office XP Professional The feature you are trying to use is on a CD etc
Please insert the disk. So I hit cancel and get Error 1706, thaT refers me to
a help file that doesnt help.
I just want this to stop. ie no message on startup please. The computer
seems to run fine once I get through.
What do I do?

Thanks for the reply, but dude, I just moved house. The disk is buried in a
box somewhere. Another option would be great. Anyway, I might not want it to
install whatever it is that it wants to install.

tab...uncheck all except AV and firewall..apply/ok ..reboot..problem solved

OK, did as directed. Problem persisted. De-checked the AV and firewall -
problem persists. Ill have a go at Rick's suggestion (below).

Installed it - looked like it was going to uninstall Office so I backed out.
However have tracked problem to MS Office loading at startup. (If I deselect
it from the startup list the problem goes away. It comes back when I try to
run, eg, Word). So the question now is - How do I stop Office from triggering
the Install program when it starts?
Anyway, feel free to contribute to this string - I have to log off 'cos the
phone is needed (dial-up).
Thanks all
T.

Hi,

Let it finish the installation then. Just wait until you've finished
cleaning out the moving boxes, and in the meantime leave it unchecked.
