Widows Explorer Search Option

How do I exclude files from Widows Explorer Search? I want to ignore my
thousands of iTune files when I look for a file.

BTW, all the Help I could find refers to the Indexing which is found in the
Control Panel/System and Administration tab - BUT I don't have any such tab!
FYI - I'm using XP SP3 Home

Right click on music file, select Properties, Advanced ( on General
tab ) and uncheck box before "For fast searching etc" . To change
thousands of files in one go try changing the attribute of the folder in
which the files reside in the manner indicated.

Indexing Service -Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services
and you will see the Indexing Services listed

Hope this helps.

Gerry:

Thanks for your response.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I do not want to disable indexing for my music
files as I will still want to search them. However watching Explorer plow
through them all whilst I wait for it to find a document or spreadheet is
maddening. If I know for sure the extension of the file I'm seeking, it's
easy to do, however, if I'm not sure, I have to make multiple passses with
each possibility. So, what I seek is the reverse of *.doc; to wit *.<>mpeg.
In other words a "not equal to" filter. Any ideas for that?

Select, Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings
and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is
checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You
may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make
certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is
not checked.

You can then check what file extensions are used for a few music files
to determine the appropriate file extension to search on.
