why wont i.e. 6.0 download exe's--little box left hand corner

sherry

Instead of getting a dialogue box when I download -any-
exe to an XP PC, I get a little box in the upper
lefthand corner and then the download stops. It says it
is done and by right-clicking the box, the properties
states it is an exe however, nothing happens when I click
the box. Thought the security settings were set too high
however, they are all set to medium. ??

Here's the fix, courtesy of Alan Edwards, MVP:

If it is only .exe files, then read on and see if this is relevant:
You may have an invalid plugin.
Netscape-Style Plug-ins Do Not Work After Upgrading Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303401

Remove the plugin with Regedit.exe
Start-Run-Regedit.exe
Navigate down to this key and remove it, after exporting it as a
normal safety precaution.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Plugins\Extension\.exe

If that key exists, then you will see what plugin has been installed.
(QuickTime by the looks of it and if so, I believe they have a fix)
The key does not normally exist.
