What's wrong with the Desktop Alert that OL 2003 already has?

There's a hotmail plugin for windows messenger that does what exactly you
want. It will notify you every time a message arrives in your hotmail inbox.

The box that is supposed to pop up (the one that you can set the
transparency) also does not show up for me, but I'm using a POP3 account and
my regular inbox. Why won't it work for me?

I'm also using a POP3 account with my default Inbox, and I don't receive the
notiffications. Why is this?

What a stupid thing for the programmers to do. Even Outlook Express notifies
you when you have new email in your Hotmail inbox - there's no reason not to!

Aye,

I would like to know why, when the bloody alerts DO work it is only for mail
going directly into the inbox. Why give us the option to be able to filter
into folders (which I'm sure most people who receive a lot of mail do) and
then have it NOT tell us when those folders get new mail!

This needs to be fixed for Office 2007.

It used to work the way you want it, but enough people complained that
Microsoft that they changed it to the current operation, eliminating the
prior behavior, as their wont, instead of giving people the choice.

I got Microsoft, and they told me I have to use exchange server to have alerts work. I'm in they same fix. I use messenger. I guess they want you to get a domain and use exchange server. I can't afford it.

Whoever told you exchange was wrong - Alerts only work for mail that goes
into your default inbox - POP3 will have alerts, as will exchange. If you
use the outlook connector with msn/hotmail and have it set as the default
delivery location, they should also have alerts.
