Why some fonts not available in "Display Properties" dialog?

Control Panle -> Display -> Appearance -> Advanced,
In my "Fonts" folder, there are many fonts, but most of them are unavailable
in above dialog. I tried to write the font manually, but it does not work.
So, my question is,

1, How to use other fonts in this dialog?
2, And, why is the font field writable?

Thank you.

98 (could be 100 as I may have missed a couple?) starting with Adobe
Caslon Pro & ending with Verdana. If you look in the Winword font list
there are lots more different fonts. The list goes on.......and new
ones coming out regularly....cost you to buy.

PS. Wizard, wave your wand over these (just 5 links of many) :) Have
a ball. Some nice ones.

Thank you, sandy. But I think my question is misunderstood. :(
I am not looking for font files. I just want ALL my existing fonts (ALL the
fonts in my "windows\Fonts" folder) appear in the "Display Properties"
dialog.
I am wandering what is the rule by which "Display Properties" dialog tells
which font should appears in the font list.
