Why so long to boot?

Hello, all.

Question. I have a Compaq Presario 1500 Laptop with a 30 GB Hard drive, only
8 GB used. It has 256 mb of RAM, 1.60GHz P4 Processor. I have recently run
Norton Speeddisk to defrag the disk, and keep it clean (I hope) with Norton
AV 2003 and Spybot anti-spyware software at least once a week. I do all
this, and this beast still takes over a minute to boot up after I have
logged in upon a restart or a cold boot. I have the MS Office Toolbar that
comes up, but it is close to the end of the time period.

Question is, What am I missing here? It booted a lot faster when I bought
it. How do I remove items from the startup folder? I do have some drivel in
there, but nothing that should slow it down that much.

Sorry if this is broad or vague; I am just getting started on this project
and figure there may be some big ''duh'' that I am missing that someone will
know immediately.

Thanks,

Hello!
Have you checked the same in Safe mode?
I shall suggest you to use Bootvis.exe tool, but
unfortunately it is temporarily unavailable.Antivirus
software slows booting speed but you can't uninstall it.
Have you updated your BIOS? Make 1st boot preference as HDD.

Hi,

Go to Start/Run and type in: msconfig. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck
accordingly. Then run this script to remove the disabled items from the
registry.

Sorry. Have to laugh a little at your problem. Mine takes 6 1/2 minutes to
finish boot.

In addition to what the others say, don't expect too much. XP may well
take up to a minute to get to display of the desktop, and from there on
it depends on the things that you run in Startup; or which resident AV
and firewalls may take quite a time to initialise
