Why not disable DCOM?

S

I don't understand why I never see advice to disable the dcom protocol on
home computers to avoid vulnerability. On a single home computer I have
never heard of a use for it. I disabled mine long ago and never had any ill
effects. The registry change is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
For EnableDCOM change the value to N. Reboot.

DCOM is used for distributed (D!) network programs, like commercial database
apps.
It's quite probable, that you'll never need it.
