Disabling dcom is really very simple...

in the registry, go to the following location:
hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/ole

Then on the right pane double click the "enableDcom" key
and change the value from Y to N.

Then restart your computer.

...and that will disable what else? Have you thought about that?

yes as a matter of fact i have, it would disable
applications that need dcom to function. But if you disable
it the app will tell you that it needs dcom and you'll just
enable it again...

....so what is the point of disabling it in the 1st place... Disabling DCOM could affect - downloading files via IE, Networking, CD burning etc.

Plus, if your system has already been hacked, disabling DCOM, editing the
registry, etc. does nothing to prevent your system from being hacked using
the back door that was probably installed on the system. At that point,
further action is really necessary.
