Why no Recording tab?

I'm running XP Home and can burn on both my drives, as follows:
- DVDs and CDs on my DVD RW drive ('NEC DVD_RW ND-4570A 1.02 (ATA)')
- CDs on CDRW drive (Teac CD-W524E 24x10x40)

I've been making DVDs (Data and 'DVD' types) and all sorts of CDs for
some years. I've used many programs for this.

Yet I've just noticed that if I look at Properties for these drives,
neither of them has a 'Recording' tab.

Can someone explain how that could be please?

Thanks Kelly. My problem is that I seem to fit into the following
category:

"If the drive is listed and you can play CDs, but no Recording tab is
visible, you'll need to manually edit the Registry using the
instructions in Knowledge Base article, 'CD-R Drive or CD-RW Drive Is
Not Recognized as a Recordable Device.' "

But I don't see the point of making registry changes, given that
burning is working OK already. There seems to be no desirable extra
functionality from that Recording tab. Or am I missing something else?

1. Click Start - Run - type SERVICES.MSC
2. Find the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
3. Double-click the Service and change the Startup Type to Automatic and
click Start button and there you go.

According to me, by default the Startup Type of IMAPI is "Manual" but you
can still see the Recording Tab. The problem occured when you install
third-party CD/DVD writing softwares.

Hope this help, let us know!
