Why is the PST file not being completely released?

Either Outlook 2007 or Vista is not completely releasing the PST file.

Since 1999, my PST file has resided on a server. With XP and Outlook prior
2007, I could open my desktop Outlook, check my e-mail and close it. Then I
could do the same thing on my notebook using the same PST file with no
problem.

Now I am using Vista and Outlook 2007, I can open my desktop Outlook 2007,
check my e-mail and close Outlook. If I want to do the same thing on my
notebook, I have to restart my desktop to completely release the PST file.
Then I can open my notebook Outlook 2007.

Further proof that the PST file is not completely release, I tried easy2sync
for Outlook (Vista and Office 2007 compatible). I copied my sever PST file
to both my desktop and notebook and changed the default delivery to the local
PST. I opened, checked e-mail and closed Outlook 2007 on my notebook. I
tried to sync the PST files between the desktop and the notebook. It was not
successful. I received the message that the notebook PST file was locked by
another application.

How are closing Outlook? If you pull up task manaer and go to the processes
tab, is Outlook.exe still running? If it isn't, are there any add-ins
installed? What are you running for antivirus software (which may also have
locked the pst)?

You may want to look at either Handle
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Handle.mspx)
or Process Explorer
(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx)
to see what process might actually have the pst open if Outlook.exe is not
running.
