Why is some text in blue?

My daughter recently discovered that some text in some applications is
blue where it once was black. She has Win XP home ed.

The only thing she can associate with this change is that she make
some minor adjustments in the mouse settings and it was after that she
noticed the color change to blue.

Anyone know how she can undo this change and get back to all black
text?

She probably also changed the "Themes" under Control Panel/Display/Themes.

By design, WinXP automatically compresses files that do not get
used frequently, and, if you've left the default settings intact,
displays those file names in blue.

If you wish to change this behavior, in Windows Explorer, click
Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced settings: Show encrypted or
compressed NTFS files in color.

Even if she had changed themes, how could that possibly relate to the
OP's question?

figure out how to change it. BTW on my XP Pro, there is no [advanced]
button, but I found the option in a list.

Are you sure about this being a default setting. My feeling is it not.

It most often happens during disk cleanup, which, if I remember
correctly does occur automatically, by default.

Do you think it is checked by default? I am not sure. What if
drive / partition is FAT32?

Coincidentally mine is checked with an NTFS formatted drive
and does not work.

Many thanks to the responders -
The..." Tools > Folder Options > View > Advanced settings: Show
encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color"... suggestion worked.
Once this was unchecked the blue color of some text was replaced with
black.

I'm not really sure, either. I'd thought I read something to that
affect, some years ago, but I could be wrong.

Nothing, FAT32 cannot support compression.
