Why is my Product Key not valid?

I just bought a new notebook and entered the trial version of Microsoft
Office. I'm trying to convert it into the real version but the Product Key
that I have is invalid. Why is it invalid? Yes it is different from the trial
version Key number. It should be valid I paid enough money for this notebook.
Please help?

Where did you get the product key? What you paid for the laptop really has
nothing to do with Office, unless the laptop vendor is an official Microsoft
re-seller and bundled a legal copy of Office with it.

The Product Key that came with your notebook is most likely for your
operating system (Windows XP?) and has nothing to do with Outlook. Explain
how you got that product key and maybe someone can make a suggestion.

Usually contacting the notebook vendor can resolve this.

I received the Product Key with the Laptop I purchased. It came in a form of
a two sided card; one side had the trial version number and the other had the
real version. I bought the laptop from "Best Buy" who which I assuming is a
Microsoft re-seller. The amount I paid for the laptop was a figure of speech
to stress my frustration.
