Why is my 'A Drive' being accessed every 60s. It is really annoying. My
computer is running XP home. It is a HP 2.5 gig p4

The machine has been doing this from almost new (I Think) so I have disabled
the drive under control panel . this works but is a pain if you have to use
a floppy.

TIA

Do you have Microsft Office installed? Office FindFast will do this.

Anti-virus software can also be the culprit.

Go here:
www.groups.google.com
and type in these search terms exactly as you see them here:
"windows xp" "floppy drive" constantly

re-enable it in control panel.
next, check your BIOS settings for that drive.

scan your system for virii and spyware
www.grisoft.com avg antivirus 6 - free
www.lavasoft-usa.com ad-aware free)

next, if you're confident enough,
open the case and check the connectors to the drive.

also, goto www.hp.com and read they technical help stuff.
send them an email.

you just might just have a bum drive.

James,
I had this happen with Dell models one time. There was a fix, but can't
remember, (its been a couple years ago) but I do remember they called it
"Phantom Drive Access", you may be able to find more searching using
this as a term..

Good Luck
