Hey group. A few weeks ago a problem developed on a friends home network
that I take care of. He could not log onto any secure sites like his crdit
card payment places with either of the two machines on his network.. His
DSL provider had him remove the Linksys NR0401 router and run the DSL modem
straight to the wall. Problem went away and it was off to Walmart for
another router.

I installed and configured the new router with no problems. All the
financial sites with problems before will now load and view just fine but
nothing Microsoft related will work. MSNBC loads to 5 bars on the status
guage and then hangs with a blank screen. Microsoft.com. Mymsn.com. Even
Windows Update on the task bar hangs. Any other site on the net I can try
will work like silk except if it relates to Microsoft.

What can it be? Legal Windows XP, IE 6.0. Firewall up, AV scanner.

Both problems (secure sites and Microsoft) are probably caused by
incorrect MTU settings.

Find the right MTU setting on each computer, as shown here, using the
router's IP address as the gateway:

Then make the setting manually, or use DrTCP to make it:
