Why is autotext, eg fliename no longer available?

My autotext standard features are no longer available. Even in Footer view
the aut text button is greyed out. I have checked th options setting sbut
can find nothing to change this.
 
The usual reason for this is that the Normal template has been replaced with
a custom template, renamed as normal.dot. This won't work, since only Word
can create normal.dot. Rename the one you've got, with Word closed, and then
restart the application; this creates a fresh copy.
