Why have editing changes disappeared?

I used track changes in a word document, saved it and when I called it up
again next day none of those changes showed. I also received a document from
somebody else in 2003 format which shows her track changes on her computer
but not on mine. She is using 2003 version, I'm using 2007. Can anybody
please help?

In Word2007, any file that has Tracked Changes in it is supposed to
open with the changes showing -- unless you go way, way down into the
Options and turn that feature off.

Are the changes still in your document? In the Review tab, Tracking
group, set the top item in the stack of three buttons to "Final
Showing Markup." Now do you see them? In the Changes group, do the
"Previous" or "Next" buttons take you to a change, or do they report
that your document contains no tracked changes?

Thanks, Peter, but no changes show prior to the very last ones I made even
after trying this out. The ones by the other person with 2003 have also just
disappeared and she is not even seen as a reviewer. However, taking that same
document back to her system, her changes show up there.

There's always that old standby, document corruption -- you could try
Open & Repair. (Instead of opening the file in any of the usual ways,
go to Office Button > Open, navigate to the file, select it (don't
double-click to open it), and on the dropdown of the Open button,
choose Open and Repair.)

You could also just try making another copy of the document on her
computer, and then moving it to yours. (Remember not to work on a file
directly from an email attachment or from removable media.)
