Why has Outlook started asking me for a password?

I receive my Hotmail messages in Outlook, but a few days ago, Outlook
suddenly started asking me for a password when I loaded it. I have only ever
had one password with my e-mail account, but when I enter this, it is not
recognised.

The version is Outlook 2002. It came as part of an MS Office package when I
originally bought the PC, so I guess no, I don't have a paid subscription.

When I open Outlook, a window pops up with the message 'Please enter your
user name and password for the following server:' There is then a bar with
the server name in it (http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail etc) which is
greyed out so I can not alter it; then a bar with my user name autofilled;
then a bar for me to enter my password & when I enter it, it is not accepted.

I have not done anything as far as I am aware to change the configuration I
previously had. I have tried deleting the hotmail account that was in there
and setting it up again, but that hasn't worked.

I can still get my Hotmails obviously but the Hotmail interface is rubbish
and hence the reason I attached my Hotmail account to Outlook.

Note that Hotmail/Live accounts can only be configured in Outlook (2002/XP,
2003 and 2007) if you have a paid subscription. If you were able to connect
to in without one you were one of the lucky few. You could try the Windows
Live Mail Deskopt BETA client if you do not want to use the web interface.
