why dosent my printer print from my microsoft word

on my microsoft word program when I go to print something it just put out
plain paper it dosent print any thing at all and when I try to find out why I
get not authrised or I get the directory service iscurrenty unavailable so
what do I do to fix it because it work before and all I did was download your
updates for windows xp sp2 updates and every thing just stop working
