Why doesn't this work?

I just went through the process to install Internet Explorer RC1.

First, it didn't put an icon on the desktop. I thought it would have.
Should this have been an indication that something was amiss?

When I ran IE RC1, it didn't get to the web page it goes to first. All
I get is the "connecting" thing, but it doesn't connect. Same for other
pages. What does this mean?

Lastly, in Add/Remove Programs, IE RC1 doesn't appear. Should it?

Well, it is not call Alpha, Beta or Release Candidate (RC) for nothing! In
other words, it ain't finished yet, so it might be missing functionality,
stability, reliability, compatibility or a combination of all. What you
want is Release To Manufacturing (RTM).
